Spring Is Coming, But Things Feel Heavy

A Gentle 7-Day Reset

Spring is supposed to be a season of renewal.

It’s the time of year when things begin to bloom again.

When the days get longer, the air softens, and the world slowly begins to wake up.

But if I’m being honest, right now things feel pretty heavy.

And I know I’m not the only one feeling that.

Lately, many people are feeling emotionally overwhelmed by both personal challenges and the collective weight of everything happening in the world.

When life feels heavy like this, it can be hard to find your way back to a sense of renewal.

If you’d prefer to watch or listen to this reflection instead, you can view the full video below.

There’s a lot happening in the world. The collective energy lately feels chaotic.

Between global events, political noise, and the constant stream of information coming through our phones, it can feel like we’re all carrying a little more weight than usual.

At the same time, things have been feeling heavy in my personal life too.

So today I want to share a very personal story about something I don’t talk about publicly very often.

Confronting My Limitations

About a year and a half ago, I was diagnosed with Lipedema, a connective tissue disorder that affects mobility, causes significant physical pain, and progressively worsens over time.

There is no cure.

Right now, I’m in the middle of a pretty intense flare.

I’m also in the early stages of preparing for surgery. The surgery won’t cure the disease, but it may create a kind of reset… a chance to reclaim some mobility and slow the progression.

A few weeks ago, I traveled out of state for a surgical consultation I had been waiting over a year for.

There are very few surgeons who perform this procedure, and the surgery itself is not simple. It involves multiple procedures, long recovery periods, and a lot of logistics.

But what I wasn’t fully prepared for was how confronting the consultation itself would be.

Part of the evaluation required going through a long list of the ways this disease affects my life… all the ways it limits mobility, decreases quality of life, and interferes with daily activities.

I already knew my limitations were increasing. I had been feeling that for a while.

But hearing them all listed out one after another was incredibly confronting.

It’s hard not to feel emotional when you’re forced to sit with all of your limitations at once.

And it’s even harder not to let those limitations begin to define you.

When Your Body No Longer Moves the Same Way

Shortly after the consultation, I had to complete a physical evaluation with my occupational therapist as part of the insurance approval process.

This was even more confronting.

They asked me to perform a series of simple movements… bending my knee, lifting my leg behind me, measuring my range of motion.

If you’ve known me for a long time, you know that I used to be a dancer.

There was a time when I felt completely at home in my body. I was strong, flexible, and capable of movements that once felt effortless.

So struggling with movements that used to feel completely natural hit on a very deep emotional level.

And it made me realize how much I’ve been masking just how quickly the disease is progressing in my body.

Right now, there is so much Lipedema tissue affecting my mobility that even lifting my leg a few inches off the ground can be difficult.

Moments like that can make it feel like blooming is impossible.

Like the weight pressing down on you is just too heavy to push through.

The Heaviness We’re All Carrying

I don’t think this feeling is limited to people dealing with chronic illness.

I think a lot of people feel this heaviness right now.

Sometimes it’s personal. Sometimes it’s family, relationships, or business challenges. Sometimes it’s the collective weight of everything happening in the world.

And when we feel overwhelmed like that, it can be easy to fall into negativity, frustration, or anger.

My inbox lately has been flooded with political memes, angry commentary, and videos celebrating someone else’s downfall.

I understand the impulse. When people feel powerless, they often look for a quick emotional win.

But spreading more heaviness doesn’t actually help anyone bloom.

It just adds more weight to the soil.

What Spring Actually Teaches Us

Even with all of that heaviness…

Spring is still coming.

And spring reminds us of something important.

Nothing blooms overnight.

Before anything blooms, seeds spend time underground in the darkness.

During that time, they’re gathering strength, developing roots, and preparing for the moment when they finally push toward the light.

When I think about the work I’m doing right now… the insurance paperwork, the travel planning, the medical appointments, the preparation for surgery… I’m starting to see those things as seeds.

The surgery itself won’t cure my disease.

But it will create space.

Space to reclaim movement.

Space to rebuild strength.

Space to continue moving toward the life I still intend to live.

Because I’m not going to let a chronic progressive disease define the rest of my story.

There are still dreams I plan to live into.

So I am reaching for them.

A Gentle 7-Day Reset

Instead of letting the heaviness pull me down, I’ve decided to try something simple.

For the next seven days, I’m doing a small experimental reset.

I recently discovered a card deck called Make Yourself a Priority in a box of my mom’s items I was going through after she passed.

Each card contains a simple prompt designed to help you reconnect with yourself in small, meaningful ways.

I pulled seven cards, one for each day.

One of them says:

Take your time on a task you would normally rush.

That one made me smile immediately, because if you know anything about working in finance, you know my life tends to run on schedules, deadlines, and monthly cycles.

But the other six prompts are just as thoughtful and grounding.

If you want to see all seven prompts, I walk through them in the video version of this post.

And if you'd rather create your own version of the reset, you absolutely can.

The goal isn’t overnight transformation.

It’s simply taking one small step each day that helps you reconnect with yourself.

An Invitation to Join Me

If life has felt heavy for you lately, I want to invite you to try this reset with me.

You don’t have to follow the exact same prompts.

You might journal, dance in your living room, spend time in nature, or simply take a few moments each day to breathe.

Spring doesn’t demand that we bloom overnight.

It simply invites us to keep reaching for the light.

And sometimes the smallest steps are the ones that help us bloom again.

If you decide to try this little 7-day reset, I’d genuinely love to hear about it.

What small action helped you feel lighter?

What reminded you that growth is still possible?

And if you know someone who’s been feeling buried under the weight of everything lately, feel free to share this with them, too.

Sometimes the reminder that we’re not alone is the first step toward renewal.
