Presence Is Part of the Service You Provide
Have you ever gone somewhere you were genuinely excited about…
only to leave feeling completely off?
That happened to me recently.
I went to a Pilates Restore class at the studio I’m a member of. And there’s a particular teacher there who isn’t my favorite. I’ve never really been able to put my finger on why… until that morning.
She wasn’t present.
She was saying the right things. Going through the motions.
But she wasn’t actually there.
At one point, during the part of class that’s meant to be quiet and restorative, where you’re breathing through everything you just moved through your body, she was already moving around the room setting up for the next class.
Weights being put away. Reformers being reset.
Grippy socks going grip, grip, grip across the floor. (Ughh..🙄)
And I remember laying there thinking…
this is not what I came here for.
I came to feel restored.
And instead, I left feeling irritated. My mood worse than when I’d arrived.
Your Presence Is Felt… Whether You Realize It or Not
That experience stayed with me longer than I wanted.
Because it wasn’t really about the class.
It was about something deeper.
How we show up for the people we’re in the room with.
Because whether we realize it or not, our energy is part of our service.
If someone is paying you, trusting you, or even just sharing space with you, they are experiencing more than just your words or your deliverables.
They are experiencing your presence.
Or your absence.
And people can feel the difference.
The Mirror Moment
On the drive home, I had to check myself.
How many times have I walked into a meeting distracted?
Or rushed?
Or already thinking about the next thing?
How often have I been physically present… but not fully there?
It’s not intentional, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have an impact.
Because your energy walks into the room before you say a single word.
We Are Affecting Each Other Constantly
We are constantly interacting with each other’s nervous systems.
Which means:
Your calm can regulate a room.
Your chaos can disrupt it.
Your presence can ground someone.
Your absence can leave them unsettled… even if nothing is said out loud.
If you show up scattered, rushed, or irritated about something happening outside of that moment, that gets felt.
If you show up grounded, present, and intentional…
that gets felt, too.
A Simple Reset Before You Show Up
This is something I’ve been paying more attention to in my own life and business.
Because I don’t want to be the reason someone leaves a conversation, a meeting, or a space feeling worse than when they entered it.
So before I walk into something important, I pause.
Even just one minute of intention setting or clearing your energy can shift the entire experience.
You can try this, too:
Ask yourself: What energy am I bringing into this space right now?
Is it supportive… or does it need to shift?
If you process things more physically, you can:
Gently brush your arms, legs, or body to move energy
Shake your body out (like animals do after stress)
Take a few slow, intentional breaths
Or, if you prefer something more structured:
Take 5 slow breaths
Bring your awareness to your heart
Set a simple intention: I’m here. I’m present. I’m here to serve.
That’s it.
It doesn’t have to be complicated.

Presence Is Not Optional in a Service-Based Business
If you’re a business owner, especially in a service-based business, this matters more than we sometimes realize.
People are coming to you for something.
Support.
Clarity.
Guidance.
Stability.
And you have to be those things within yourself first before you can be them for someone else.
Your presence is not separate from your work.
It is part of your work.
Ready to Clean Up What’s Been Weighing You Down?
And this doesn’t just apply to energy.
It applies to your business, too.
Because just like you can feel when something is off in a room…
you can feel when something is off in your business.
Messy books.
Unclear numbers.
Avoided financials.
That creates the same kind of background noise…
the same low-level stress that never fully goes away.
So if your books are behind, disorganized, or just not where they need to be…
This is your opportunity to reset.
