Making Space to Run: Letting Go Before the Year of the Fire Horse

Over the last few months, I’ve had a quiet but persistent sense that it was time to let some things go.

Not because anything was wrong or because something dramatic happened, but because certain things in my life simply didn’t — and don’t — fit anymore.

Old clothes

Old habits

Old ways of relating to stress

Bye!

Things like this once brought comfort because of their familiarity, but over time they’ve turned into physical and mental clutter. And clutter has a way of dulling your existence.

And I want to shine, dang it! I want to feel clearer. I want my external space to reflect the internal growth that’s been happening.

Letting go is an ending.

But it’s also a beginning.

Recently, I traveled to Austin to witness something rare and deeply meaningful: the intentional closing of a dear sister’s business.

We celebrate beginnings all the time:

Births

Weddings

Launches

Openings

Big announcements.

Yay!

But we rarely honor endings, especially in business, and we almost never give space for the grief that can come with them.

My friend’s business was full of heart and love. The intentions were right. And still, it reached its completion.

There was a closing ceremony where a small group of her closest supporters gathered in circle. We released old stories into the fire — beliefs that were no longer true, our fears, and our attachments. And we reclaimed what we are carrying forward.

Our releases and our reclamations were all slightly different, but woven together they revealed a common thread:

We are reclaiming our power.

We are trusting our wisdom.

We are honoring our intution.

All in service of living more truthfully.

It was tender, honest, and beautiful.

And my favorite part was the laughter through the tears.

What stayed with me wasn’t sadness.

It was clarity.

Because when endings are honored, they create space.

And space is not loss — it’s preparation.

When we hold onto things simply because they feel familiar — objects, roles, identities, stories — we aren’t operating from source energy.

We’re operating from attachment energy.

Attachment energy is heavy.

It slows us down.

It keeps us tethered to versions of ourselves that no longer fit who we’ve become.

Letting go isn’t failure; it’s discernment.

That’s why this moment feels especially meaningful as we come to the close of the Year of the Snake.

The energy of the Snake is about shedding layers, getting to the root of things, and releasing what has served its purpose so we can move forward lighter and clearer.

For me, that’s meant looking back at the last year and asking a simple but powerful question:

What am I done repeating?

My answers have been clear.

🔥I’m done with perfectionistic tendencies.

🔥I’m done with people-pleasing habits.

🔥I’m done feeding fear and old stories about not belonging.

🔥I’m done letting small things carry the same weight they once did.

I’m choosing curiosity instead of judgment.

I’m choosing the belief that as long as I’m not harming anyone, the choices I make aren’t wrong. They’re experiments. There’s play here. And learning.

And I invite you to do the same.

To notice the parts of yourself that no longer fit who you’ve become, and to let them go.

This is the energy of the Snake at its most honest: conscious shedding.

This kind of release often shows up physically too, and when it does, we call it purging.

Purging is an act of self-love.

You might feel called to:

  • clear out your closet

  • donate items you haven’t touched in years

  • simplify or reorganize your workspace

  • release commitments that quietly drain you

  • create more space in your calendar

That’s what I’ve been doing over here.

Self-love isn’t always silky robes and bubble baths. Sometimes it looks like parting with our attachments in order to make room for what’s next.

So, now… let's talk about beginnings.

On February 17, we enter the Year of the Fire Horse.

The Horse is associated with movement, freedom, momentum, and forward motion. Paired with the Fire element, this year carries bold, passionate, high-energy potential.

A horse needs room to run.
A horse needs care and grooming.
Proper nourishment.
Rest.
Space.

If you think of yourself as the Fire Horse, the question becomes:

What do you need in order to move forward freely?

What tools support you?
What environments help you thrive?
What needs to be cleared so your energy can flow?

The purging we do now is what creates that room.

This matters in life, and it matters in business.

Your energy feeds your work.
Your personal life shows up in your business.
Your internal state influences how you make decisions, lead, and grow.

If you want your business to expand, you have to be willing to do the internal work alongside the practical work.

Self-care isn’t separate from success.
It’s foundational to it.

As the Year of the Snake comes to a close and the Year of the Fire Horse approaches, consider this:

You don’t need to run yet.
You just need to make space.

Make it ceremonial.

Release what no longer fits.
Honor what has completed.
Create room for what’s calling you forward.

The rest will come.

If this reflection has you thinking about clarity, space, and what needs to be released in your business, this might be a supportive next step for you.

For February, I’m offering a complimentary Diagnostic Review, valued at $300+, for new clients.

A diagnostic review is a high-level look at your books and financial systems. It helps you understand:

  • what needs to be cleaned up

  • what needs to be cleaned out

  • and what needs to be put in order so you can move forward with clarity

It’s not about judgment. It’s about information and direction.
